Hardship & Wellbeing Funding

We understand that students can face a wide range of pressures and concerns while studying. Our financial assistance and wellbeing funds are here to help eligible students, who need extra financial support, continue their course at Kellogg.

In the first instance, contact the Academic Office at academic.office@kellogg.ox.ac.uk who will discuss your circumstances and explain the next steps. All information will be handled confidentially.

The College sends a termly financial support email which will contain the most up-to-date information on both the broader University financial assistance options and those found here in the Student Handbook.

Kellogg College Financial Assistance Fund

The purpose of the College Hardship Fund (CFAF) is to provide a measure of support for Kellogg students who would not otherwise be able to continue to study.  The award is available to all enrolled Kellogg students regardless of start date.

Amount

The maximum amount that can be awarded is £1,000 with most awards being lower than the maximum to ensure that awards from this limited fund are equitable and inclusive.

Guidelines

The following guidelines apply if you make an application to Kellogg or to the Financial Assistance and Support Department:

  • You will be asked to explain how your circumstances have changed from those anticipated when you applied to your programme and to provide some detail as to the nature of the hardship that you are facing.
  • Consideration will be given to how the change in financial circumstances is unforeseen and unavoidable.
  • It would be helpful for you to demonstrate that how, given some support, you will then be able to afford to complete your studies.
  • You may also want to consider whether applying to your department to suspend your studies may be a better course of action if you are facing financial hardship.
  • If you make an application to the University’s Oxford Assistance Fund (OAF), you will first have had to apply to your college. For this reason, it is important to be mindful of the deadlines of those funds and discuss your details with college at the earliest opportunity.

How to apply

  • A student can consider applying to both the Oxford Assistance Fund (OAF) (see below) or the College Financial Assistance Fund (CFAF).
  • If you are applying for the OAF, you are automatically considered for the CFAF and do not need to separately apply.
  • However, if you do not meet all the criteria for the OAF or have specific circumstances otherwise not covered, you can apply separately for the CFAF  by completing the College Financial Assistance and Wellbeing Fund application form.
  • The College Financial Assistance Committee will endeavour to consider your application promptly.

If you have any questions about the CFAF, please email academic.office@kellogg.ox.ac.uk

An application to the CFAF does not mean the College Continuation Charge (CCC) will be waived. Any request to waive the CCC should be submitted separately.

Oxford Financial Assistance

The Oxford Assistance Fund  (OAF) is the University’s financial assistance fund for all students, regardless of fee status or course start date. As with the College Financial Assistance Fund, successful applicants must demonstrate that they are currently experiencing unforeseen and unforeseeable hardship and that their situation is sustainable overall (i.e. if the applicant receives an award, that will be enough to return them to a financially sustainable position).

For full eligibility requirements please see the OAF website. You may also find the the University’s Financial Assistance and Support advice helpful.

The OAF is managed by the University’s central student funding office. If you have any questions on OAF, please email student.funding@admin.ox.ac.uk

College Disability Fund

The College has a modest amount of funding to assist students who may incur unexpected costs arising from a disability or medical condition. The award is available to all enrolled Kellogg students regardless of start date. If you believe that the College may be of assistance, please contact the Academic Office at  academic.office@kellogg.ox.ac.uk giving details about your circumstances, with independent medical evidence or your Oxford Student Support Plan (SSP). Depending on your circumstances, it might be possible to consider an application without an SSP. You can apply by completing the Kellogg College Disability Fund application form.

Amount

The maximum amount that can be awarded is £1,000 with most awards being lower than the maximum to ensure that awards from this limited fund are equitable and inclusive.
